Four Months!

Screen Shot 2016-02-04 at 5.21.38 AM January flew by and the girls turned four months old today. They have done a great job their first month at “school” and have also survived their first colds. They both weight 14lb and are still sleeping about 12 hours every night. They are wearing size 6 month in pjs (due to their length) and in their pants (due to their bellies!) but still can wear size 3 month in onesies and tops. All of their dresses are size 3-6 months. Our girls love to smile and laugh. Sloane is more laid back and Maisie is the first to giggle uncontrollably and already more opinionated. They love to look at each other and smile when they see each other. They also love watching their big brother. Most of all they love to be held but we can’t complain because we love snuggling them.

Here is their current schedule:

  • 6AM- Wake and Eat 7 oz
  • 8AM – 10AM – Nap
  • 10AM – Eat 7oz
  • 12PM-2PM – Nap
  • 2PM- Eat 7oz
  • 4PM-6PM – Nap
  • 6PM- Eat 7oz
  • In bed by 6:30PM

(Side note: The struggle is real to get a picture of these two. These pictures were taken one after another in a total of about 30 seconds. Now you can see why it’s so hard to get them both smiling!)

Three Months!

Happy New Year and Happy three months to these two little ladies! They weigh about 12.5 and 13 lb, eat every 4 hrs during the day and we just stopped their last (5th) feeding of the night and now they sleep 11+ hours! Thank you Moms on Call!  They are wearing 3 month and 3-6 month outfits and 6 month pjs (they are too long for 3 month pjs already!

They are growing and changing so much. My goal in 2016 is to finally get a pic of both of them smiling at the same time! I love these sweet girls!

Here is their current schedule:

  • 6AM- Wake and Eat 7 oz
  • 8AM – 10AM – Nap
  • 10AM – Eat 7oz
  • 12PM-2PM – Nap
  • 2PM- Eat 7oz
  • 4PM-6PM – Nap
  • 6PM- Eat 7oz
  • In bed by 7:30pm*

*When we bathe them we do it after this last feeding and then “top them off” if needed to get them sleepy again and ready for bed. Ideally you would bathe before their last bottle but we can’t make it work with big brother’s schedule.

*Awake time usually involves, eating, tummy time, fun under the play gym or going for a walk outside. The most active they are during their wake time the better their naps are.

*When we put them down for the night they sleep all the way through until they wake up at 6am. They are great sleepers!

*At three months the girls were still in size 1 diapers. A week after writing this we moved them up to size 2 diapers.

Getting Ready for Weekday

It’s time for another transition for the girls. As soon as we get used to one routine its time to change again. I go back to work in January and so its time to start getting the girls on a schedule that will work for them being at weekday (my work’s daycare program) and traveling back and forth each morning and afternoon.

The girls have also not been very hungry every 3 hours and are still really sleepy when its time to wake them up to eat and so I decided they could definitely go longer than 3 hours for each feeding. Ideally I would move them to a 3.5 hour schedule next but with driving to and from work and pick up at weekday that schedule just won’t work for our family. So yesterday they turned 10 weeks old and today I started them on a 4 hour schedule to see how things go.

Here is our new schedule:

6AM- EAT 5.5-6 oz
7AM- Nap at home, then in the car and drop off at daycare by 9am
10AM- EAT
11:30AM-2PM – NAP at daycare (swaddled in a Woombie)
2PM – EAT
3-4:30PM- NAP at daycare, I pick them up at 4:30, ideally they will nap in the car and at home
6PM- EAT
7PM-8:30PM NAP
8:30PM- BATH
9PM* – EAT

*Definitely hoping to drop this last feeding eventually, especially once the girls start solids and are getting enough calories during the day.

Two Months!

Screen Shot 2015-12-03 at 2.19.13 PMOur little loves are officially two months old today! They are growing so fast! They are in size 1 diapers and wear 3 month clothes. Sloane weighs 11 lb and is 22 in long. Maisie weighs 10lb 14 oz and is 22.5 in long. They sleep swaddled, side by side in one of their cribs. They are sleeping roughly 10pm-6am but we are working on getting them both to consistently sleep through the night each and night. We are in love with our little angels 🙂

Here is their current 2 month schedule:

  • 6am- wake and eat 5 oz
  • 7-9am- nap
  • 9am- eat 5 oz
  • 10am-12pm- nap
  • 12pm – eat 5 oz
  • 1pm-3pm – nap
  • 3pm – eat 5 oz
  • 4-6pm- nap
  • 6pm- eat 5 oz

After the 6pm feeding I’ve tried a couple things.. at first we were consistently letting them nap until 9pm and then feeding another 5 oz and then bed from 10pm-6am. However I really wanted to work on dropping that 9pm feeding and getting closer to them sleeping 12 hours so I also tried feeding them a little more at 6pm and then putting them to bed for the night. They woke up a couple times but I never had to feed them. Just gave them their pacis, changed diapers if needed, and then back to bed.

Diaper Diaries for Twins

So with our first child I tracked the size and number of diapers we used each month. With the girls we are definitely flying through diapers MUCH faster! One Month!

Screen Shot 2015-11-17 at 11.41.06 AM

Our little loves are one month old today! I can’t believe how fast time is flying by with these two! They still sleep between each feeding and wake up only once in the middle of the night. Sloane weighs 7lb 13 oz and Maisie weighs 7lb 12oz! They gained over 2 pounds in a month! Unbelievable! Diaper count for the first month is 657 diapers! And they are still wearing newborn diapers and newborn clothes. Love these two!

Two Weeks!

12138529_1074791462531044_7839519462098071526_o

Our twins are officially two weeks old! Currently we average about 19 diapers per day, 8 feedings which are all about a 45-60min process, a total of 5-6 hours of sleep in a 24 hr period (but at no more than 2 hrs at a time), 2 loads of laundry per day, countless dishes, and at least 1 major blow out of some sort. Who knew two tiny babies could create so much mess and yet win over our hearts so much more. We are all loving the joy they bring to our family. Jude and Toby have both become attached to their baby sisters as well which is priceless to watch and be a part of. I love his little family of ours!

Introducing…

IMG_856112088561_10101480880465599_5880826435607904315_nIntroducing… our beautiful baby girls! Born Thursday, October 1, 2015.

Sloane Anne Harvey
10:05am, 5lb 5 oz, 19in long

Maisie Lynne Harvey
10:06am, 5lb 1oz, 18 in long

They were born via planned c-section (post coming soon on the ins and outs of c-sections). Sloane was “grunting” after she was born and so after a quick introduction she was taken to the “Transition Nursery” which is the level between being in the room with you but not serious enough to admit into the Special Care Nursery (NICU) of the hospital. KH followed her as Maisie and I headed to recovery. After being in recovery almost the full hour, our sweet Maisie started “grunting” as well and had a low glucose (blood sugar test) and so she too was taken to the Transition Nursery. It was quite a wild ride. I was wheeled up to my room, after delivering two babies, and found myself alone which was a completely heart breaking experience as I wanted nothing more than for our sweet family to be all together.

A lot of different things happened (many of which are hard to remember at this point) but eventually Maisie came to join us in our room later day followed by Sloane. I was overjoyed. We spent one night all together in our room until the next morning when Maisie failed a couple of her glucose tests and she was admitted to the Special Care Nursery.

We spent the next several days going back and forth between our room and taking care ofScreen Shot 2015-10-09 at 11.21.14 PM Sloane, and the Special Care Nursery where we could visit Maisie. I wanted nothing more than for our family to be together! One comfort was found in one of our friends and neighbors who is a nurse in the Special Care Nursery. She took care of Maisie all day on Saturday and kept us updated on how she was doing. Maisie was eating well but it was zapping all of her energy so she eventually was put on a feeding tube. Lauren was the first to get her to drink out a bottle but then the following feeding was completely by tube again.

KH, Sloane and I were discharged on Sunday and sadly had to leave Maisie behind. KH and I spent the next couple of days going back and forth visiting Maisie during the day and then heading back to the hospital after Sloane’s 9pm feeding and visiting with her until close to midnight. Each day she was getting stronger and stronger and was eating less and less from the feeding tube.

On Tuesday we went to the hospital to visit Maisie and to our surprise we found out that not only would Maisie be going home- she would be going home with us immediately! We were expecting later that week so it was a complete and wonderful surprise to be able to pack up and get her home so quickly.

Screen Shot 2015-10-09 at 11.18.22 PMAnd so we made it home and surprised my mom, who was there watching our little man, and we walked up with BOTH babies and finally got our picture of 5 (6 with Toby!)

It’s crazy how recent it all was but how quickly everything is meshing toward and becoming a blur. We feel overjoyed and blessed to have our sweet daughters home together with us. Let the fun begin!

30 Weeks

Well in case you were wondering, life IMG_7535is certainly bigger with twins! Today marks 30 weeks
with our baby girls. Here’s a side by side from when I was pregnant with Jude (left) and now the girls (on the right). Today I also hit one of my milestones- I’ve been super anxious, excited and ready to make it to the 30s. Here’s to getting even closer to our delivery date and the arrival of what we are praying will be two healthy babies. Currently no major complaints- I’m getting more and more tired, heartburn is getting worse but i’m managing and moving/walking is slower and more uncomfortable (especially at night after a long day).  6 more weeks to go! Can’t wait!
